| Abstract |
本稿は,ホーレス・マン(Horace Mann, 1796-1859)が青年時代に行った改宗とそれに至るまでの経緯を,彼自身と彼の周辺の者たちが残した書簡や日記などを使い,それを辿りながら,彼が教育の"行政官"として世に出るまでの若き日に培われた人間観とその意味について探る.
In this paper, I would clarify some reasons of Horace Mann's (1796-1859) conversion to Unitarianism in his youth, and also ponder how his view of mann was formed relation to his conversion. Then, I would mainly discuss about these four points. 1. Mann's dilemma between his religious attitude and the republican principle. 2. his boyhood: suffering from the stern doctrines of Calvinism. 3. his break with the Orthodox church and conversion to Unitarianism. 4. 1) his thought of idealism on education. 2) humanistic aspects in his religious attitude.
