Japan has just reached a turning-point in the educational democratization. Present-day teachers in high schools are confronted with many difficulties. Pupil's character has been entirely changed in accordance with change of their social background. Confronted with this situation, teachers are anxious to find out the technical way of education in the deversified curriculum. At the same time they are going to throw a strong doubt upon the education of national defense shown by the government. Getting on the track of "Education for peace" written by Herbert Read just after the war, I suggest firstly how the present education for competition and disunion will be reformed and changed into the ideal one for freedom and partnership through the training so that pupils may perceive and realize art. Next on referring to "Respublica" by Plato, I seek after the means and idea of his suggestive treatise, "Education through the Art." But in spite of following Herbert Read, I point out that Aristotle's educational idea is unreasonably disregarded by him, and I want to fix the right position on cosmos of Hellenic conception of the world. It is the sub-title, "means for peace and leisure."
