Some findings in the studies of social perception have a great possibility of contributing to the fundamental theory of prejudice. Because they are useful knowledges concerning psychological mechanisms inherent in the individual perception and concerning the perception of social relations rather than that of spatial relations. To call one's attention to the importance of the studies in this field, the auther has described some differences between social perception and pure perception, and he has pointed out from these studies the following three features: I. considerations about the intervening constructs between a whole social perceptual stimula and the perceptual behavior toward it, by which we can estimate the each individual cognitive structure. II. considerations about the level of these studies which does not consist in explanation but in thorough description and interpretation of perceptual phenomena. III. reconsiderations about cultures, historical situations and socializations, so forth which are subtly influential to the individual perception. After reviewing some current trends of recent studies, he has pointed out that a few mechanisms found by these studies are very important mechanisms from the view point of the study of prejudice, though they were criticized as trivial from the stand point of the pure perception.
