The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of marries women's employment in Japan and Korea by using the Social Stratification and Social Mobility Survey (SSM) 2005 data obtained from Japan and Korea.
 Based on multinominal logit regression with unemployment as the reference category, we obtained the following results: (1)The "Douglas-Arisawa law" that states the greater the husband's income, the lower is the wife's probability of employment is partially supported in both Japan and Korea. (2)In both countries, having a child aged less than seven years limits the probability of employment for married women. (3)The years of education attained by married women have a significant effect on their probability of employment in Korea but not in Japan. In Korea, the greater the number of years spent by a married woman on education, the higher is her probability of being employed as a wage worker. On the other hand, the fewer the number of years spent on education by a married woman, the higher is her probability of being a self-employed worker. (4)In Japan, Married women whose parents were living with them had a higher probability being employed, but such a tendency was not observed in Korea.
