In the late 1980's, the Afro-Bolivian people, long-time marginalized ethnic minority in Bolivia,  started a cultural movement purposed on revaluating their own culture and gaining social recognition of their ethnic identity. This paper focuses on "Saya"  which played a signiflcant role in this movement and lead it to achieve success in a very short time span. "Saya" is a form of inherited folklore  music among the Afro-Bolivian people who are the descendants of black slaves in thecolonial period. lt has been practiced by group of 10 to 30 persons, men and women, and originally seen in the area called Yungas, where they were  forced to live in the colonial period and consequently settled down. As a background study of Saya movement, an anthropological research in two villages,  Tocaña in the province of Northern Yungas and Chicaloma in Southern Yungas, was conducted. This paper illustrates acomparative analysis on the  structure, performance and the costumes of Saya in these two areas based on the  field work carried out since 2003. Examining various differences appeared in these two areas, it can be assumed that the urban Saya as a movement has  reflected rural Saya strategically in its most impressive and commercial elements.
