Abstract
Due to changes in environmental factors and lifestyles, the incidence of allergic conjunctival diseases has increased in recent years. Severe allergic conjunctival diseases such as vernal keratoconjunctivitis and atopic keratoconjunctivitis are often complicated by corneal lesions, that often cause severe pain and sometimes decreases in visual acuity, The infiltration of inflammatory cells such as eosinophils and neutrophits observed in the late phase reaction of allergies is important in the pathogenesisof such lesions. Chemokines are key factors in the regulation of the infiltration of such cells to the ocnlar surface. In this article, we review the role of chemokines in allergic onjunctiva)diseases, the role of IL-4 in the regulation of the production of chemokines and possible therapeutic strategies that target chemokines.
