The purpose of this paper is to construct a word network for the polysemous word '上 (SHÀNG)'. This same character is found in Japanese, and it has a similar prototypical meaning, but the usage of '上 (SHÀNG)' and '上 (ウエ)' are not totally corresponding, and we see many wrong uses of '上', not only in Chinese learners but also in Japanese learners. One of the reasons for these wrong uses is that the semantic relation of the polysemous word is not taken seriously in vocabulary education from the beginning. Therefore, in this paper, I made an overall word network for '上 (SHÀNG)', which also contains the meanings of synonyms such as '起 (QǏ)' and '升 (SHĒNG)', and it also extends beyond the differences in word classes.
