| Abstract |
This paper generalizes the standard multi-commodity, multi-factor model of trade to allow for international factor mobility and investigates the relationship between factor endowments and the pattern of commodity and factor trade. In the absence of international differences in technologies and preferences, the pattern of commodity trade is shown to be determined by differences in the endowments of internationally immobile factors. In contrast, the pattern of factor trade and the balance of commodity or factor trade are unambiguously dependent on differences in the endowments of internationally mobile factors.
