本研究では19世紀初頭のドイツ文学における未来のイメージを、最近再発見され出版された資料を基に、とりわけドイツ・ロマン派の勃興と関連付けて考察した。一般にドイツ・ロマン派は反啓蒙・中世の再発見という点で一見未来志向とは無縁の運動のように見えるが、ロマン派の作家グループにおいて例外的に架空の未来像を書いた作家がいたことが確認された。ドイツ・ロマン派の詩人・作家の過去回帰はしばしば、後ろ向きの、反進歩・保守的な姿勢と結びつけられてきたが、フランス革命の影響やナポレオンによる占領、対ナポレオン解放戦争という政治的変動のなかで、民主的な共和制の統一ドイツを求めるナショナリズムを唱えるグループもあった。これがドイツの保守主義もしくは右翼の源流になるが、その著作の多くは思弁的なドイツ主義、排外主義のイデオロギーであり、フィヒテの『封鎖商業国家』論以外、文学面で架空のユートピアを提示するまでには至っていなかった。
一方ロマン派時代の娯楽小説家の作品に数少ない事例ながら、実現しない空想の政体をユートピア物語に託した小説があった。18世紀に流行した「君主の鑑」の未来版とも言えるような作品である。軍事技術のアイデアが目立つのは、まさに戦争に翻弄された時代相を反映しており、なかでも大砲や気球を発展させたものが興味深い。また共和政体を志向する作品ではないもののユーリウス・フォン・フォスの『イニ』（1810年）では、神聖ローマ帝国に代わりゲルマーニア帝国というドイツ語圏諸侯を統一する皇帝の存在が前景化され、後の王政復古時代の政治的な動きに呼応する着想も生まれている。
本研究では未来像の中の復古というロマン派の時代の矛盾する文学上の現象を記述する試みの端緒を開くことができた。
In my research, the visions of the future at the beginning of the 19th century in German literature were considered due to the newly discovered materials in relation to the rise of German romanticism. In general, the "German Romanticism" seems to be far from the future-oriented direction, it positioned itself against the Enlightenment and rediscovered the Middle Ages. Exceptionally, there were some of those romantic poets and writers who showed daring images of the future. The return of German romanticism to the past is linked to its backward, anti-progressive and conservative attitude. With the political turmoil of the French Revolution, the French occupation and the war of liberation against Napoleon, the nationalist romantics longed for the dream of a united republican and democratic Germany. This movement gave rise to German conservatism, the ideology of which led to Germanism and xenophobia. Fichte's idea of "the closed commercial state" is only one example of the romantic-conservative drafts of utopias.
There were a few romantic entertainers who wrote the never-to-be-fulfilled political utopian story, which was designed in the pattern of the "prince's mirror" in the 18th century. The novel "Ini" (1810) by Julius von Voß represents a pioneering work in the German SF. Here one finds curious contradictions or restored conservative visions of the future.
