ミャンマー東部とラオス北部の中国国境沿い, 現地の専門家も含む学際的なチームて, メコン河流域北部農村山地, メコン河分水海とメコン河―サルウィーン河との間にある食糧, 鉱物, そしてエネルギーの資源が供給されている農山村地を調査対象にした。具体的にメコンやサルウィーンという2本の河川沿い低地の米産地や, 新たな道路, 橋, そしてタムインフラの建設地である堤や渓谷上の斜面の林業や, 低地栽培が行われている地を対象にする。農地, 山地, 林地の減少が表れ始めているうえ, ライフリフットの選択肢及び農作業に従事できる季節の短縮による変化を定量調査と定性調査で調へた。
研究対象国の2つ(ミャンマーとラオス)を中心にし, 環境科学や農村経済の面で新インフラ整備や資源採取かライフリフットや生態系への影響と変化を調査す る。混合調査でとった定量テータと定性テータを以下の発表会や依頼された出版機会に発表する, 出版者から依頼のあった文書を発刊した。なお, 対象国及び関連施設かある国での研究会や発表会を行うことである。ミャンマーの東北部タイ国境沿い地域, タイのチェンマイやチェンライ国立大学や国境沿い地域, そして米国ワシントン D.C.てのメコン河政策研究施設 (ウドロー・ウィルソン国際学術センター)での調査及び調査のファインディングについての報告や会議を行った。
成果や考察点について, 3月20日から27日の間に, 米国のワシントンDCでの研究施設Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholarsで, 22日に1)Global Food Security Symposium 2018へ参加して, 2)China Environmental Forumの会議に参加した。27日にワシントンのGlobal Environmental Facility本部で, Juha Uitto施設長及びAnna Birgitta Viggh上席評価担当との会議を行った。
This research involved joint interdisciplinary surveys along the China-Myanmar-Laos border regarding the Upper Mekong area, in particular the watershed area between the Mekong and the Salween and impacts on its provision of food security, mining, and energy resources. The survey included the watershed area's lowland rice-producing areas and the construction areas for new infrastructures including roads and bridges, and hydro-dams along slopes. In addition to the onset of decline and disappearance of cropland, montagne areas, and forested areas, both quantitative and qualitative data showed the shortening or shrinking of livelihood options and growing season.
In the 3rd week of March 2018, presentations and discussions of the findings from this research were conducted at 2 research institutes. The first was at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars at 2 of its venues. One was the Global Food Security Symposium 2018 and the second was the China Environmental Forum. The third was at the Global Environmental Facility, where there was a meeting with Juha Uitto, Director, and Anna Birgitta Viggh, Senior Evaluation Expert.
