1. Purpose
The aim of this study is to construct the stress management program to promote mental health and prevent cardiovascular disease for 2017-2018. In 2017, we investigated the relationship between risk of cardiovascular disease and psychological factors, mental health, social factors.
2. Method
The questionnaire survey by mail was conducted for 1209 residents aged 40-59 years who live at X municipality. The contents of questionnaire were as follows : (a) demographical characteristics, (b) risk of cardiovascular disease, (c) psychological factors, (d) mental health, (e) things about stress, (f) social factors. Multiple regression analysis was used. Dependent variable was risk of cardiovascular disease. Independent variables were items which significantly related with risk of cardiovascular disease on correlation analysis respectively.
3. Results
393 residents replied and there were 362 valid respondents -male 148 (40.9%), female 211 (58.3%), unknown 3 (0.8%)-. Average age was 52 years. In the results of multiple regression analysis, inactive of stress management (p=0.004), participation in community activities (p=0.003) and full time employee (p=0.040) were predictors of increased risk of cardiovascular disease in this model.
4. Discussion
This study indicated that inactive of stress management was associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, so it is thought that stress management might be effective to prevent cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, participation in community activities and full time employee were associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Accordingly, we could carry out the program effectively for residents who should take the program in cooperating with community activities and workplace health promotion activities. In next year, we will carry out the program on residents to reveal the effect for promoting mental health and preventing cardiovascular disease.
