異なる言語と文化を教えたり学んだりする教育の現場では, 文化集団の直接的もしくは仮想的な関わりを伴うために, 文化に関するイメージが生産, 再生産されている。その中で, 「〇〇文化は××だ」というような一般化された知識が繰り返されることの問題性が強く指摘されている一方, 「文化的差異をどのように扱えばよいのか」という実践の枠組みの検討が十分になされていない。文化的差異は, 特定の集団を区別, 排除, もしくは特別扱いするために都合よく使用されることが, 問題として指摘されている。世界的に, 異質な文化を持つ他者を排他的に扱う傾向が広がりつつあり, 日本社会もその渦中にある。本研究は, このような傾向を抑制するための教育の一端を詳細に記述して, 「異なる文化について常識として流布している考え方や情報を鵜呑みにせず, 自分のこととして捉えて背景にある文化の政治性に気づく」アクティブ・ナレッジという枠組みを構築することを目指した。
本申請者の担当講義科目「多文化コミュニケーション」を対象とし, 授業中の教師の記述と授業後に学生が記載した振り返りシートをデータとして, 質的研究を行った。当該授業は, 日本で生まれ教育を受けてきた一般学生と, 海外で教育をうけた帰国生, 留学生をはじめとする海外にルーツを持つ学生が共に学ぶ場として構成されている。このような文化的背景が異なる人々が集まる場において, 文化的差異について批判的・主体的にとらえるアクティブ・ナレッジはどのように形成されるのか。分析と考察のための理論的枠組みとして, ブラジルで識字教育実践を展開したフレイレの「抑圧する者と抑圧される者の間の矛盾」という概念に注目し, 授業を通じてアクティブ・ナレッジを形成するプロセスの中で, 学生が抱える矛盾のありようを浮き彫りにした。そのうえで, 言語・文化・コミュニケーションを扱う教育現場への提言を行った。
I investigate the politics of cultural differences in Japanese university program in which students with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds take part in collaborative learning and think about a variety of multiethnic issues by qualitative research methodology. My research interest is in the critical investigation about the notion of cultural differences regarding others who have different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Through this research, I proposed an effective educational framework to promote a multicultural, inclusive society with a special focus on cultural and communication adjustments the Japanese, as a majority need to make. And for the foreigners as a minority, I would like to show alternative aim of learning Japanese language to encourage to promote social change. I made a proposal for collaborative learning with international students and local students, second language education and multicultural education in Japan regarding how treat the cultural differences.
