世界は一瞬ごとにゼロから創造されている, という連続創造説は, アウグスティヌスの中で明確なかたちで論じられ, その後の西洋思想に大きな影響を与えた。トマス・アクィナスにおいても, この話題は「保存」(conservatio)という言葉のもとでさまざまに論じられている。これまで, この「保存」が「時間」を含意することから, トマスにおける「時間」を解明する研究に向かい, 全知である神が了解する時間全体と, 人間が感じている「今」の流れとの関係をどのようなモデルで表現すればよいかについて, その成果を学会発表や学術論文のかたちで公表してきた。その後, とくに, 人間が主観的に感じる「流れる今」としての時間を考察する中で, 「現実」概念を根本的に検討する必要性に迫られ, その方面の研究を行った。この研究の成果の一部は, 『アルケー 関西哲学会年報』第25号(2017)に「現実性をめぐって——トマスの方から」として掲載された。上野修氏(大阪大学名誉教授)との共同討議のかたちをとったこの論考は, とくに「現実性」(actuality)と「実在性」(reality)の区別に着目し, それを, 現代の可能世界を巡るさまざまな存在論的な立場の検討を通して, 「現実」の存在論的性格を解明しようと試みたものである。この研究は, 可能世界をめぐる現代形而上学の議論が, 今なおさまざまな展開を見せていることもあり, 今後も多角的な視点から研究する必要があり, それを通して, 「現実」という, 本研究にとっての隠れた中心テーマが, さらに解明されることが期待される。この「現実」ということについての根本的な理解が, 「信仰」という認識論的に特異なありかたと深い結びつきをもつというのが, 本研究の当初にあった洞察だが, その部分についての解明は, まだ具体的なかたちをとっていない。
Continuous creation theory that the world is being created from scratch every moment was argued in a definite form in Augustine and had a great influence on subsequent Western thought. Also in Thomas Aquinas, this topic is argued variously under the word "conservatio." Since "conservatio" seems to imply "time", I have headed towards research to elucidate "time" in Aquinas. I have given a conference presentation and published an article concerning how we describe the relation between the time God the omniscient understands and that which humans understand as the flow of "now." Later, in particular, considering the time as "flowing now" that humans feel subjectively, I was pressed for the necessity to examine the concept of "reality" fundamentally and conducted research in that direction. A part of the result of this research was published as "On actuality : From Aquinas's perspective" on "Arche : Kansai Philosophical Society Annual Report" No. 25 (2017). This discussion, which was formulated as a joint discussion with Mr. Osamu Ueno (Professor Emeritus of Osaka University), focused on the distinction between "actuality" and "reality," in particular. We tried to elucidate the ontological nature of "reality" through examination of various ontological positions around the possible worlds. The discussion of contemporary metaphysics over possible worlds is still showing various developments and it needs to be studied from a multilateral perspective from now on, and through that, the nature of actuality --- which is the central theme for this research --- will be further elucidated. There was an insight that the fundamental aspect of "actuality" had deep ties with "faith" at the beginning of the present study, but the elucidation of that part has not taken concrete form yet.
