Abstract |
From the investigations in this report, it is believed that the following conclusions are indicated;
1) This process, sometimes called "the Soda-Lime Process"is obviously desirable for the high silica aluminous ciays.
2) Most favourable mixing ratio of lime and soda as follows;
i) Add 1 mol of soda for each mol of iron oxide and 0.7-0.8 mol for each mol of alumina.
ii) Add less than 1 mol of lime for each mol silica when the silica-alumina ratio in the ore is less than 0.4-0.5, and 1.5-2.0 mols when exceeds 0.4-0.5.
3) So, when more silicious ores used, more di-alciumsilicate will be formed in the clinkers.
4) Di-calciumsilicate decomposes gradually in the sodium-aluminate solution and causes undermentioned unfavourable phenomenous;
i) A substantial part of almina and soda once dissolved are reprecipitated again as insoluble salts in leaching procedure.
ii) The red mud, sometimes, so much swells to make it impossible to separate the leached solution from the residue.
5) It is essential, therefore, in selecting ore even for this process to limit the silica to as low a figure as circumstances warrant and I believe that the ores having silica-alumina ratio less than 0.4-0.5 will be used safely.
