Video Film Capture technology has never been more ubiquitous in our world. The factors driving down the price of technology while improving on the functions have made it possible for virtually anyone to be a contents creator. Consequently, this has caused a surge in self-produced contents sharing, and the appearance of collaborative filmmaking effort. These remotely-produced, multi-user productions have created a new niche in the filmmaking industry, which is slowly-but-surely growing and gaining recognition. However, the lack of a general guide and the underutilization of open-source technologies is hampering potential participants. The research in this thesis attempts to shed light on this by detailing the experiment of the first successful remotely-produced trans-Pacific collaborative documentary film, 'Places + Perspectives' and the workflow which supported this project. By fusing state of the art technology to preserve the naturally developing human factors of a project such as this, new innovating filmmaking method can be implemented. A discussion of difficulties and the Six Affection Factors of Remote Collaborative Documentary Filmmaking are presented. Finally, the Conclusion examines recent advances to the field, which are helpful to future remote collaborators.
