Forecasting Cryptocurrency Returns with a Sparse Dynamic Factor Model"を発表した。
Circuit Breakers for Stock Markets with Cybernetic Avatarsを執筆した。 International Conference on Robot Ethics and Standards (Icres) Crisis or Redemption with AI and Robotics? The Dawn of a New Eraに収録された。
With support from the Fukuzawa Fund, I stayed in the United States for one year. However, less than a week after arriving in the U.S., I was suddenly confronted with an unexpected passing of my family member, which required an urgent temporary return to Japan and the need to deal with various administrative procedures. Due to these unforeseen circumstances, the first few months did not proceed as originally planned.
Following that period, I devoted my research efforts primarily to forecasting. At the Midwest Econometrics Study Group conference held at the University of Kentucky in November, I presented a joint work with Mr. Akihiko Noda titled “Forecasting Cryptocurrency Returns with a Sparse Dynamic Factor Model.” The same paper was also presented at the seminar at Wayne State University, my host institution, in January 2025. This research examines the forecasting of cryptocurrency price movements and demonstrates that forecast accuracy can be improved by employing a Dynamic Factor Model.
In addition, beginning in January, I worked another project, “Circuit Breakers for Stock Markets with Cybernetic Avatars.” This study discusses safeguards necessary to prevent crises in a future where avatars will be used in financial trading. The paper was presented at the International Conference on Robot Ethics and Standards (ICRES) 2025 held in Porto, Portugal in July, and it is included in the Springer Nature e-book "Crisis or Redemption with AI and Robotics? The Dawn of a New Era."
Furthermore, I advanced research on trend–cycle decomposition. Building on the Band Spectral Regression methods previously used for forecasting purposes, I worked on developing a technique capable of appropriately extracting trends even when structural breaks exist in the trend component. I also investigated forecast accuracy in cases where models include low-frequency components such as trends and level shifts and where structural breaks occur in model coefficients, using similar frequency-domain techniques.
