本研究は、 3か国（日本・中国・アメリカ）の幼稚園の国際比較研究である。2002 年から 2022 〜2025年という約20 年間の幼稚園の在り方に焦点をあて、 1) 何が変わり、2) 何が継続されているのか、3) 時の経過と共に何が変化し、継続されているのかの、どの側面が文化・国特有で、どの側面が文化・国を超えたものであるか、という幼児教育の共通性と多様性の特徴を明らかにすることを目的とする。
幼稚園でビデオ撮影を行い、園生活の通常の 1 日の流れを反映した 20 分前後のビデオを作製する。その後、ビデオを使い、各国の幼稚園教諭にインタビューを行う。ビデオを使ったインタビュー法 による調査 を実施して、上記 3 点の研究課題解明を目指す。ビデオを使ったインタビュー法とは、研究協力者に、口述のみで質問をするのではなく、ビデオを見せながらインタビューを進める方法である。ビデオを、会話を活性化させるための道具として使うことで、より多くの情報を研究協力者から得ることができる。また、具体的な場面を提供することができ、研究協力者の深層に迫ることができる。
福澤基金開始時に日本の幼稚園でのビデオ撮影・作製は終えており、中国とアメリカの幼稚園でのビデオ撮影・作製（1年目）、その後、ビデオを使ったインタビュー（2年目）を予定していた。今年度は2年計画の1年目であり、2か国のビデオ撮影を予定していたが、幼稚園からのビデオ撮影の協力承諾は得ていたものの、各国の倫理委員会からの許可に13ヶ月を要したため、今年度に予定していたビデオ撮影は来年度となった（2025年4月に実施予定）。時期としては遅れたが、様々な手続きを行い、許可を得ることができたのは今年度の大きな成果である。ビデオ撮影ができなかったため、予定を前後し、日本の幼稚園のビデオを使ったインタビューを国内外で実施した。現時点では、日本の幼稚園においては「継続」に関しての言及が多く、「変化」に関しての指摘は少ない。今後、「それがなぜなのか」を国際比較の側面を加えながら考えていく。
This is an international comparative study of preschool in three countries in three eras: Japan, China, and the United States. The research questions are 1) what has been changed over time, 2) what has been continued over time, and 3) what aspects of these are country-specific, and what aspects are not.
The research method used in this study is video-cued interviewing. I videotape of a typical day of preschool, edit the footage into 20 minutes, and then, interview teachers using these edited videos. These videos serve as a tool to provoke conversation among the participants as well as provide a concrete situation for the focus group interview participants.
At the beginning of the Fukuzawa Fund, the videotaping and editing of Japanese preschools had been completed, and the plan was to videotape and edit videos of preschools in China and the U.S. (first year), followed by video-cued interviews (second year). This year was the first year of a two-year plan, and videotaping was planned in two countries. Although the preschools in two countries agreed to be videotaped, it took me about 13 months to get approval from the ethics board in each country. The videotaping planned for this year will take place next year (in April 2025). It is a great achievement to get the various procedures done this year. Since videotaping was not possible in China and the US, I moved back and forth in the schedule. I conducted video-cued interviews using Japanese preschool videos in Japan and abroad and found out that there are many references to “continuity” and few to “change.” I will consider “why this is so” while adding the aspect of international comparison next year.
