第二年度にあたる2020年度は、2017 年に研究代表者・分担者が中心となって実施した「近代日本と慶應スポーツ」展をきっかけに、それ以降寄贈された資料の整理と分析を引き続き行った。また、関連する資料の収集・分析を適宜行った。
本年度は当初想定していた、全国各地の個人及び記念館所蔵の資料の出張調査が、新型コロナ流行の為に実施出来なかった。しかし、特記すべき事項としては以下の二点がある。第一に、体育会野球部員で、約一世紀前にアメリカの野球を研究し移入することにも貢献した本郷基幸のアルバム等の調査と複写を行った。第二に、主に昭和30年代40年代の慶應義塾の主要な行事や講座のオープンリール記録のデジタル化を行った。これらの音声データの大半は、今まで活字化されていなかったものであり、この時代に、慶應義塾の塾風・文化・スポーツがどのように語られていたかを知る貴重な音源資料である。その内容の確認にも着手した。
また、コロナ禍は、感染症や公衆衛生について新たな視点を与えている。その新たな視点から、北里柴三郎とその周囲の人達の社会的活動について捉え直すことに着手した。これは福澤諭吉や当時の慶應義塾の人達の健康観を考える上で有意義であると考える。
本研究プロジェクトの成果は、2021年5月に三田山上、旧図書館に開館予定の「福澤諭吉記念慶應義塾史展示館」の構想と展示にも寄与している。ちなみに、同塾史展示館の具体的な準備は本研究のメンバーの都倉武之を中心に進められて来た。また、本プロジェクトを基にした企画展も検討されている。
In FY2020, the second year of the project, we continued to organize and analyze materials that had been donated since the exhibition "Modern Japan and Keio Sports," which was held mainly by the research representative and research members in 2017. In addition, we collected and analyzed related materials from time to time.
This year, due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, it was not possible to conduct the survey of materials owned by individuals and memorial museums throughout Japan, which we had initially planned to do. However, there are two points worthy of special mention. First, we researched and photocopied the albums and other materials of Motoyuki Hongo, a member of the baseball team who also contributed to the study and introduction of American baseball about a century ago. Second, we digitized open-reel recordings of major events and courses at the Keio University, mainly from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. These audio data are a valuable source of information on how the academic traditions, culture, and sports of the Keio University were told during this period. Moreover, the coronavirus crisis has given us a new perspective on infectious diseases and public health. From this new perspective, we also examined Shibasaburo Kitasato and the people around him, which we believe is useful in considering the view of health since Yukichi Fukuzawa.
The results of this research project have also contributed to the concept and exhibition of the Fukuzawa Yukichi Memorial Keio History Museum, which is scheduled to open on May 15, 2021. The specific preparations for the museum have been conducted mainly by Takeyuki Tokura, a member of this research project. A special exhibition based on this project is also under consideration.
