社会的統制手段の典型の一つである法について、他の統制手段との比較問題に重点を置いた研究を行なった。また、監視・記録技術とプライバシーへの懸念について、前者に関する技術的調査を進めるとともに、特にプライバシー概念の再検討・整理を通じた理論的再検討を試みた。自律的な個人を基礎とする法に対抗する統治原理の有力な候補である功利主義については、その性質と発展の系譜を整理する作業を行ない、比較の基礎を構築することを試みた。一方、法については民主的な立法過程の性格とその直面している問題について検討し、立法学研究の一環としての成果を公表している。
Mainly proposed the comparative research between law, as a typical mode of regulation on society, and other modes. Through technological survey on surveillance and recording, theoretical investigation and reorganization on the notion of privacy was pursued. On utilitarianism as a prominent alternative of governing principle to law based on modern person, through survey over its character and history of development, foundation for further comparison was established. On law, on the other hand, the character and current problems in the democratic legislative process was investigated to form a part of general study on legislation.
