新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大の影響を受け、2020年度は占領期の日本における白人(白人アメリカ人)をめぐる認識や受容の歴史に関する文献調査に切り替えた。2021年度は当初予定していたウクライナ訪問が不可能になった。そのため、米国で白人ナショナリストの活動家などへのヒアリングを行った。2023年度は極右勢力が台頭しているイタリアで調査を行った。2024年は、比較分析の見地から、イスラム過激主義の動向と対策についてインドネシアで調査を行った。オルトライトは自国第一主義的な外交政策と親和性が高いが、そうした内向きのナショナリズムの影響を最も受けやすい地域として台湾と韓国で調査を行った。
In FY2020, due to the impact of the spread of the new coronavirus, we switched to a literature survey on the history of perceptions and acceptance of whites (white Americans) in Japan during the occupation period. Therefore, we conducted interviews with white nationalist activists and others in the U.S. In FY2023, we conducted research in Italy, where far-right forces are on the rise; in 2024, we conducted research in Indonesia on trends and countermeasures against Islamic extremism from the perspective of comparative analysis. Although the alt-right has a high affinity with a home-first foreign policy, we conducted research in Taiwan and South Korea as regions most vulnerable to the influence of such inward-looking nationalism.
