本研究は, 急性期ステロイドホルモン生合成の第一ステップでコレステロールをミトコンドリア外膜から内膜へ転送するsteroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR)の機能解明を目指したものである.ミトコンドリア標的シグナルを利用したStAR蛋白自身のミトコンドリアマトリックスへの移動が, StARのコレステロール転送能に重要な役割を果たすことをin vivoで明らかとした.
