本研究は1910～20年代の日本、アメリカ、ドイツにおいて、無声映画がどのように上映されていたのかを、伴奏音楽に着目して明らかにすることを課題とした。日本、ドイツ、オランダ、アメリカ等の無声映画関連資料の収集・調査を進め、その成果に基づき、地域を横断する同時代的な広がりと、各地域の特色ある実践からなる無声映画伴奏の実態を、各国での比較を交えて一定程度解明することができた。その成果は、音楽学や映像研究を対象とする内外の学会における口頭発表や論文として発表したほか、一般向けの学術書籍の刊行（『世界は映画でできている』、『ベートーヴェンと大衆文化』）や実践的な上映の実施を通じて広く公開した。
This research involves investigating the global and transnational relationships of silent film music among Japanese, US and German silent film from the 1910s to the 1920s. Based on the materials collected from archives in Japan, Netherland, the USA and Germany, this research clarifies the contemporary distribution process of the praxis across the national borders and local characteristic developments of accompaniment styles. These results have been presented at renowned international academic conferences. Furthermore, several papers have been published in Sekai ha eiga de dekiteiru [The world is constructed of cinema!] (co-editor, 2021, in Japanese), Beethoven to Taishu bunka [Beethoven and mass culture, 2024, in Japanese] and The Routledge companion to global film music in the early sound era (Chapter 36, 2024, in English).
