実験参加者がビデオにおける因果関係を含む事象を口述したデータ、およびこれらのビデオの事象を表す文を実験者がインタヴューをもとに用意し実験参加者が判定した構文の容認度のデータを使い、因果関係を含む事象の諸要因が事象を表すのに使われる構文の形態統語的統合度にどのように反映されるかという問題に取り組んだ。特定の要因に関して言語間の違いはあるものの、いくつかの要因の構文の形態統語的統合度への影響は統計的に有意であり、アイコニシティを示す傾向が見られると結論づけた。本研究および関連した研究の成果は論文の出版と学会発表により公開し、国際学会のセッションの企画をして意見交換を行った。
Using descriptions by experiment participants’ of video clips depicting causal events as well as their acceptability judgements of the sentences that my consultants and I prepared as sentences describing the video clips, the present study investigated the issue of how factors of directness of causation are iconically reflected in the degrees of the morphosyntactic integration of the constructions used to describe the events. It found an overall tendency toward iconicity though there were some crosslinguistic differences in the effects of specific factors on the choice of constructions. As output from this research, I organized a theme session ("Causation in discourse and cognition: Crosslinguistic perspectives") at an international conference, gave conference presentations, and published papers.
