| Abstract |
本研究で取り組む喜劇 The Brothers を含む本格的な『ジェイムズ・シャーリー全集』15巻が、オクスフォード大学出版局により2020年から順次刊行される。これは1833年以来の全集出版で、彼の喜劇 The Brothers の現代校訂本を完成させることを目標に据えた。
本作の「本文確定」をより精度を上げて実行するために、海外オークションで売りに出された Six New Plays (1653年刊行) のこれまで未知のコピー4冊を購入した。これらを使って本文の正確性の精度を上げ、このほか現代校訂本に不可欠な「イントロダクション」および「注釈」、「巻末付録」の完成準備を行った。
The main aim of this project was to edit one of James Shirley's comedies, The Brothers, for the Oxford Complete Works of James Shirley (15 vols, to be published from 2020). In addition to more than twenty copies already collated, four hitherto unknown copies of Six New Plays, of which The Brothers was one, were purchased for completion of this project, thereby further enhancing the level of textual collation of the play. Research has been done for writing Introduction, footnotes, and appendices.
