本研究の目的は、日本の少女文化におけるアメリカ文学・文化の受容について、その歴史的背景を明治期に遡り、第二次世界大戦後の民主化政策を経た1970年代までを考察することであった。本研究期間には、アメリカでの調査や国会図書館などで収集した資料に関する調査を経て、日本の少女文化の中にいかにアメリカ表象が取り入れられていたか、少女マンガという媒体がいかに重要な文化装置であったかを論じた。その学術的成果として国内外の媒体での論文発表、また国内外での口頭発表を行った。それらをもとにして2021年には単著『立ちどまらない少女たち－－＜少女マンガ＞的想像力のゆくえ』（松柏社）を刊行した。
The objective of this research project is to trace the lineage of cultural acceptance of American culture within Japanese shojo culture from the Meiji period until the 1970s, during and after the democratization of Japan following World War II. The research aims to demonstrate the extent to which Japanese shojo culture incorporates representations and images of America, thereby highlighting its significance as a cultural device in Japanese history, despite its frequent dismissal as a trivial and fleeting phenomenon. The scholarly outputs of this project comprise academic articles that have been published in both domestic and international media, as well as presentations at both domestic and international conferences. In 2021, a monograph titled "The Unstoppable Girls: The Power of Shojo Manga Imagination" was published as a result of this project.
