| Abstract |
英国オックスフォード大学、ボドリアン図書館所蔵のJ.R.R. Tolkienの未刊の手稿原稿、特に「先史観」(これはTolkienの場合とりもなおさず「先史言語観」となる) の理解にカギとなる'English and Welsh'の草稿調査を行った。
この'English and Welsh'のextended edition出版のプロポーザルが正式にthe Tolkien Estateに認められ、英国HarperCollins社からの出版契約を結ぶことが出来た。ここには'English and Welsh'以外のTolkienの「先史言語観」に関連する草稿調査の結果も含める予定である。
This project attempted to determine Tolkien’s views on pre-history of Britian, which, in Tolkien’s case are equated with those on pre-history of languages in Britain. Tolkien’s unpublished manuscripts of ‘English and Welsh’ was thoroughly studied along with related academic papers. The proposal to publish the result of this project, combined with the previous ones, as an extended edition of ‘English and Welsh’, a third book in a series of extended editions of Tolkien’s academic papers, was officially granted a permission by the Tolkien Estate and will be published by HarperCollins.
