Place branding aims to apply the concepts and techniques of branding developed in marketing for profit-organizations to regional management. It has been a long time since marketing started to take an interest in a brand, and it can be traced back to the beginning of marketing. However, brands came to the fore again because brand equity, or the asset value of the brand, came to be valued in the 1980s. Brand equity means customer-based brand equity that is the differential effect of brand knowledge on customer's response to the marketing of the brand(Keller, 1993, 1998). And the impact of brand knowledge depends on what the customer wants from the brand. The same applies to place brand equity. If the customer's needs for the region are different, the effect of place brand equity will be different. In this paper, we focus on the place brand asset-value assessment model presented by Kanno and Wakabayashi (2008) as a model to describe the effect of place brand equity. Then, using its improved model, we consider how different place brand performances affect place brand’s asset-value structure.
