本稿は，伊能景利が享保期に作成した近世佐原村の百年の歴史に関わる文書編纂物の考察を通じて, 彼が地域の歴史，および経済活動における村役人の役割をどのように捉えたのかを明らかにするものである。景利が生きた元禄から享保期にかけて，佐原村では従来の枠組みと経済活動の実態とが齟齬をきたすようになるとともに, 幕府の一元的な地方政策に対応しなければならないという状況にあった。そのなかで, 景利は経済活動に関わる先規の成立過程を熟知し, それを出発点にしながら新たな経済活動や幕府の政策との間に折り合いをつけることで，円滑な在地経済の展開を導く力量を村役人層に求めたのである。
The present study examines the complexities of local documents edited by INO Kagetoshi (1668-1726) during the Kyoho period, and presents his views on local history and economy. INO served as the village headman of Sawara from the Genroku to the Kyoho period. As local economy developed, he witnessed the market conflicts that occurred between the new economic trend and the old customary law. Meanwhile, he negotiated with the local governors of Bakufu, that introduced institutional reform of the local governance to protect old local interests. Under these conditions, as the village headman, INO was required to be knowledgeable about local history, especially the origin of the old customary law. Using this knowledge, INO claimed that negotiation skills for coordinating different interests were necessary for the village headman.
