中国では民間金融が行われているが, 特に温州に代表される東南沿海部において盛んである。民間金融は, 民間貸借, 闇為替市場, 「民間集資」などの諸形態がある。私営・個人企業の発展で有名となる温州における民間金融は, 発生, 発展, 一時的な低調と更なる発展の段階を経て, 成熟段階に入っている。民間金融はこれまで主に, 資金面での地域経済の支援, 金融アクセス手段の提供およびフォーマルな金融機関の改革の促進という役割を果たしてきた。
