| Abstract |
1927年10月の米国モルガン商会パートナー, T. W. ラモントの訪日の経緯を一次史料より明らかにし, 訪日が日米経済関係に与えた影響を検討した。特に, 昭和金融恐慌後にモルガン商会が行った日本経済に関する調査と訪日報告書から1920年代のアメリカの対日経済認識を明らかにするとともに, ラモントが日本の財政・金融政策の改革を求めるアメリカ政府の経済特使としての役割を担っていた事実を指摘した。
In October 1927, Thomas W. Lamont, a senior partner of J.P. Morgan & Co. visited Japan at the invitation of Japanese Treasury.
This study elucidates the sequence of events on Lamont's visit from a primary historical material and discusses the impact of his visit to Japan on the Japan-U.S. economic relationship.
Especially, this study clarifies the U.S. perception of Japanese economy and finance after the Financial Panic of 1927 from the research conducted by J.P. Morgan and Lamont's report of his visit, and also highlights that Lamont played a role as a special economic envoy of the U.S. government, which sought Japanz's fiscal and monetary reforms.
