教育学者としての私が自分の研究の中で取り扱うのは,飽くまでも具体的な教育問題である.従って話しは研究の都度に,常に特定の問題へと絞られていく事になる.しかしその問題に取り組む場合の,言わば姿勢として,私は「比較教育学」を採用しようと考えている.この為まず私がしなければならないのは,比較教育学という学問が一体どんなものなのかを,曲がりなりにも説明することであろう.だがもしその仕事に本腰を入れたとすると,今度はそれが一つの大きな研究になってしまう事は間違いない.そして現在の私には,そうした大仕事をやり通すだけの力量は備わっていないのである.所が幸いなことに最近では,「比較教育学とは何か」を直視しようとする研究が,欧米の研究者だけでなく,我が国の比較教育学者の手によってもかなり進められて来ている.そこでそうした先輩の研究者たちが著した成果を手掛かりにして,私自身の小さな研究が比較教育学全体のどの辺りに位置付けられるのかを探るという事に,ここでの課題を限ってみようと思う.
This paper was originally written in the form of prologue or clarification of theoletical stance which prescribes the author's research styles. More specifically it was the prerequisite considerations for him to proceede to the unfamiliar thesis which could be termed "comparative education in the realm of children's picturebooks." As the major content was already published under the title of "Totte from Sweden" sparing such prologue, he truly wiches that this paper will complement the background of the thesis. His stance differs fundamentally from so called world system approaches or global models which entail colossal cross national comparison. Acknowledging his deficiency to engage in those kinds of broad approaches, he proposes as an alternative more sensitive and intensive comparative study between his own nation's educational system and a few other counterparts in their present living contexts. Through this approach he assures that ones nation's endogenous character will be dynamically and ecologically figured out which has been one of the most important endowments for comparative education as an established academic discipline.
