Abstract |
This paper details an artistic endeavor by Miyako Ishiuchi that depicts the atomic bomb incident. This exhibition does not directly describe the bomb. This paper explores "ひろしま/hiroshima" by Miyako Ishiuchi from a sociological perspective of time. "ひろしま/hiroshima" (2008) is a collection of photographs taken of the clothing and the personal effects caused to atomic bomb victims, archived at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. These photographs were trigger our thinking regarding the horrendous Hiroshima bomb incident with a new perspective. Ishiuchi did not take these photographs to document the past, rather, the photographs were taken to create a memory of the here and now. These photographs help us to think less about the tragedy and painful deaths of those who wore those garments, and more about their spirits and lives.
