This study purports to focus on the music education thoughts and practice of Yonejiro Suzuki and his influence on his Chinese students in the early 20th century. Yonejiro Suzuki was mainly famous for introducing a method named Tonic Sol-fa into Japan at the end of 19th century, and also for masking his mark as the founder of Tokyo Music School. But about his music education to the students from China in the early 1900's has never been studies fully. The author explores the Suzuki's ideas of music education in the context of Meiji Reform, and illuminates the consistency between his music education thoughts and examines his teaching activities. The following materials were employed in this paper: the materials possessed in Tokyo Metropolitan Archives and in The Kodokan, and articles written by Suzuki.
