本研究はルイ14世治下に王立絵画彫刻アカデミーで開催された一連の講演会 (コンフェランス) について、包括的な分析を行うものである。この講演会は、造形藝術についての公的で確実なアカデミーの規則を整備することを目論み、基本的には、素描を基礎に据えた古典主義理論の構築を目指していた。だが、17世紀後半から18世紀初頭にかけて「藝術」に対する価値観が次第に変化する時代にあって、講演会の内容には、しばしば矛盾や齟齬が生じている。講演会録の精読を通して、その言説の揺らぎや多様性を分析し、近代に至る藝術上の変革がいかに生じてきたのかを検証することが本研究の目的である。
3年計画の最終年度にあたり、昨年度刊行準備を行った『アンドレ・フェリビアン「王立絵画彫刻アカデミー講演録」注解』について、鹿島美術財団より出版助成を受けることができた。出版に向け、翻訳の見直し、全体の訳語の統一、注の充実を図りつつ、編集・校正の作業を進めており、2024年度中には刊行される予定である。
本書は1667年に行われた計7回の講演会の翻訳と解題に、補遺として翌年第8回の講演会の翻訳と解題を加え、さらに研究論文2本を付したものである。報告者は、全体の監修と、第7回のセバスティアン・ブルドンによるプッサン作《盲人の治癒》(1650)についての講演の翻訳と解題及びフェリビアンの美術批評に関する研究論文を担当した。本年度は編集作業と並行に、改革派であったブルドンによる〈慈悲の七つの行い〉連作にみられるプロテスタント的側面を分析する研究論文を執筆し、その中で、ブルドン自身の作品と、プッサン作品に関する彼の講演内容との関係を論じた。また、別の論文ではフェリビアンの美術批評の初期に現れる「grâce」という言葉の変遷をたどり、フェリビアンの美術批評が絵画の世俗化／自律化という、近代にいたる藝術上の変革に果たした役割を分析した。両論文は査読付き学術雑誌に掲載予定である。
This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of the lecture series held at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture during the reign of Louis XIV. These lectures aimed to establish definitive and authoritative guidelines for the Academy for plastic arts, primarily promoting a classicism theory grounded in drawing. However, the contents of the lectures are often found contradictory and at odds with the gradually evolving values of ‘the arts’ from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. The purpose of this study is to analyze the variability and diversity of the discourse through a detailed analysis of the lecture transcripts, exploring the shifts in the arts leading up to the modern era.
In the project's final third year, we secured a publication grant from the Kajima Foundation for the Arts. This funding supported the book publication of ‘André Félibien: Commentaries on the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture Lectures,’a manuscript we prepared the previous year. The book's translation has been reviewed and standardized, the annotations enriched, and the text is now in the final stages of editing and proofreading.
The book features translations and commentary of seven lectures from 1667, plus an additional lecture from the subsequent year in the appendix, alongside two research papers. My contributions include supervising the entire project, translating and annotating the seventh lecture by Sebastien Bourdon on Nicolas Poussin's‘Healing of the Blind of Jericho’(1650) and the research paper on André Félibien's art criticism. In parallel with the editorial work, I authored a research paper examining the Protestant aspects in Bourdon's ‘The Seven Works of Mercy’series, discussing its connection to his lecture on Poussin's work. In another paper, I traced the early usage of the term ‘grâce' in Félibien's art critiques, analyzing his role in the secularization and autonomization of painting — an artistic transformation that led to the modern era. Both papers are in line to be published in peer-reviewed journals.
