本研究は、19世紀後半以降の映像メディアの展開を俯瞰した上で、地域や言語の枠組みを超えた映像音響の実践のグローバルな展開の実態を解明することを目的とする。本年度は、とりわけ無声映画期からトーキー初期にかけての日本やドイツにおける実践に関する成果が上がった。
ドイツ語圏の事例に関しては、共編著『ベートーヴェンと大衆文化』（春秋社、2024年1月刊行）に、ドイツにおける無声映画期からトーキー初期にかけて、作曲家ベートーヴェン像が映画というメディアにおいてどのように変化しながら流通していったのかを検討する論文を寄稿した。また『慶應義塾大学日吉紀要　ドイツ語・文学』では、無声映画期にドイツで活躍した音楽家ゴットフリート・フッペルツに関する論文を寄稿した。
日本における事例に関しては、Routledge社が刊行した論集The Routledge Companion to Global Film Music in the Early Sound Eraへの寄稿論文で、日本におけるトーキー初期の音楽映画を対象に、身体の西洋化／近代化をめぐる問題が、映像音響メディアを通じていかに表現されたのかを論じた。
このほか、国際的なネットワークのなかで多くの映画の音楽を残した坂本龍一の活動に関して、『ユリイカ』2023年12月臨時増刊号で論考「オペラ『LIFE』、生きられた偽史」を発表したほか、国際音楽学会東アジア分科会大会（IMSEA2023、台南）にて坂本が主催した国際短編映画コンペティションに関する口頭発表を実施し、香港、台湾などアジアにおける音楽研究者との意見交換を進める貴重な機会を得た。
理論的な分析の基盤となる英語およびドイツ語文献の収集・調査に関しても、年間を通して一定の成果が上がった。これらの活動成果を踏まえ、申請当初に予定していたアメリカにおける事例の研究の進展や、個別の事例研究を総合する基盤構築のための研究会やシンポジウムの開催が、次年度以降のさらなる課題となる。
Starting from the emergence of film techniques at the end of the 19th century, audio-visual media has developed in many ways around the world. In this research project, I aim to clarify the diversity of developments in audio-visual media from a global perspective. In 2023, I achieved the following research results on several cases in Japan and Germany from the silent era to the early talkie era.
First, focusing on historical materials in Germany, I contributed a chapter for the publication Beethoven to Taishu Bunka [Beethoven in Mass Cultures, in Japanese] on the reception of German classical composer Ludwig van Beethoven in popular culture. In my chapter, “Beethoven and the Cinema,” I investigate and compare the changing images of the composer in the cinema from the 1920s to the 1930s in Germany. In addition, I published a paper on a German silent film composer, Gottfried Huppertz, based on his manuscripts and unpublished materials collected in Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin.
Second, I published several research results regarding Japanese examples, including a contribution to Routledge Companion to Global Film Music in the Early Sound Era and a paper on Ryuichi Sakamoto in Yuriika [Eureka, a Japanese magazine on literature and culture]. Furthermore, the oral presentation at the 7th biennial conference of IMSEA (International Musicological Society, East Asia) was a precious opportunity to share the research results with scholars from other Asian countries and regions for the development a broader research network.
