研究の主題である訪日旅客の目的地の多様化は、人気の観光地である大都市近隣のオーバーツーリズムを防止するだけでなく、人口減少やテレワークの普及により減少すると見込まれる国内の交通需要を補う意味においても重要なテーマである。そこで、本年は、訪日旅客の目的地の分散と国内での消費に関する研究とともに、前提となる国内の交通需要の減少についての研究を実施した。
前者の研究では、観光庁が公表する訪日外国人消費動向調査のデータを用いて計量分析を実施した。分析から、訪日回数が多い旅客ほど目的地を多様化させていることや、旅行者の国籍により訪問地の傾向が異なることなどが明らかになった。消費額については、羽田・成田・関西の３空港から地方都市へと周遊する訪日旅客は、それ以外の空港から周遊する旅客よりも消費単価が高いことが示された。この研究成果は、2023年10月に開催された日本交通学会第82回研究報告会で発表し、2024年3月発刊の学会誌『交通学研究』第67号へと掲載された。現在は、翌年度に向けて個票データを新たに取得し、訪日時の満足度や宿泊地の違いなどを踏まえたより精緻な分析の準備を進めている。
他方、交通需要減少の研究では、主要な交通利用者である出張移動者を対象とした分析を実施した。Webアンケート調査で得られた個人の用途別出張データの分析から、出張目的によりオンライン会議への代替されやすさが異なり、社内会議のような活動はオンラインで代替されやすい一方、検査や監査目的での出張はオンライン化が進んだ後も対面で維持されやすいことが明らかになった。この成果は、2023年7月発行の『KANSAI空港レビュー』No.536と2023年10月発行の『運輸と経済』に掲載されたほか、加筆・修正した内容を2023年11月に開催されたThe 16th ITS Asia-Pacific Regional Conferenceで報告した(発表者:中村知誠)。
Diversification of destinations of passengers visiting Japan, the subject of the study, is an important theme not only to prevent over-tourism within large cities, which are popular tourist destinations, but also to cover domestic transportation demand, which is expected to decrease due to the declining population and the prevalence of teleworking.
I conducted a study on the dispersion of destinations of visitors to Japan and their consumption behavior, as well as a study on the decrease in domestic transportation demand, which is a prerequisite for the study. In the former study, I conducted a quantitative analysis using data from the Survey of Consumption Trends of Foreign Visitors to Japan published by the Japan Tourism Agency. The analysis revealed that passengers who have visited Japan more frequently tend to diversify their destinations, and that the places they visit differ depending on the nationality of the traveler. As for the consumption expenditure, it was shown that inbound passengers traveling from Haneda, Narita, and Kansai airports to regional cities spent more per unit than passengers traveling from other airports. The results of this research were presented at the 82nd research conference of the Japan Society of Transportation Economics held in October 2023 and published in The Japanese Journal of Transportation Economics, No. 67, issued in March 2024. Currently, we are preparing for the next year to acquire individual data and conduct a more precise analysis based on the level of satisfaction during visits to Japan and differences in lodging locations. In the study of transportation demand reduction, we analyzed the data of business travelers, who are the main users of transportation. Analysis of travel data by individual use obtained from a web-based survey showed that the ease of substitution for online meetings differs depending on the purpose of travel, and that while activities such as internal meetings are more likely to be substituted online, business trips for inspection and audit purposes are more likely to be maintained face-to-face, even after the shift to online travel. The results were published in the July 2023 issue of "KANSAI Airport Review" (No.536) and the October 2023 issue of "Transportation & economics". The revised and edited version was reported at The 16th ITS Asia-Pacific Regional Conference held in November 2023.
