本研究は、2022年度に取り組んだ研究課題「バスク語文学の翻訳とその課題」をさらに発展させることで、バスク語文学の翻訳のさまざまな側面について分析と考察を深めることを目的とし、特に現地の専門家との今後の共同研究を念頭に置いた調査や分析を進めることを計画していた。
そのため、まず2023年9月に、数年ぶりとなるスペイン領バスク自治州での現地調査を実施した。短期間ではあったが、日本からはアクセス困難だった資料や情報の収集に努めるとともに、バスク語文学や翻訳を専門とする複数の研究者と話し合いを重ね、今後の個人・共同研究のために有益な意見交換や打ち合わせをすることができた。また、バスク語とバスク文化の対外普及を担う公的機関「エチェパレ・バスク・インスティテュート」を訪問し、 筆者が2022年度に手がけたバスク語文学の翻訳振興政策に関する分析のフィードバックを行なうとともに、関連テーマについてのインタビューを実施した。今後、出版社や著作権エージェンシーといった他のアクターにも同様のインタビューを実施し、その内容について現地の専門家と共同で研究を進展させたいと考えている。
その他の調査・分析については、他の言語への（自己）翻訳が刊行されたのちに、翻訳における改変を踏まえて作者によって書き直されたという経緯が目を引く、近年のいくつかのバスク語文学作品に関するリサーチを行なった。そのひとつについては、まだ共同研究者のあいだで分析とフィードバックの最中であり、来年度以降の成果発表を目指したい。他のいくつかの作品には個人研究として取り組み、分析を進めるとともに、成果の一部を下記の学会発表や講演などで公開した。
This research aimed to further develop the 2022 research project "Translation of Basque literature and its challenges" by enhancing analysis and reflection on various aspects of the translation of Basque literature, with a particular focus on future collaborative research with local experts.
To this end, a field survey was conducted in September 2023 in the Spanish Basque Autonomous Region, for the first time in several years. Despite the short period of time, I was able to gather materials and information that were hard to access from Japan, discuss with several researchers specializing in Basque literature and translation, and exchange valuable ideas and discussions for future individual and collaborative research. I also visited the Etxepare Basque Institute, the public organization responsible for the external dissemination of Basque language and culture, to provide feedback based on my analysis of the policies for the promotion of translation of Basque literature, and to conduct interviews on related topics. In the near future, similar interviews will be conducted with other actors such as publishers and literary agencies, and the results will be analyzed in collaboration with a local expert.
Other studies have been carried out on several recent Basque literary works that stand out due to their translation into other languages and subsequent rewriting by the author in light of the changes made in the translation. One of these works is still undergoing analysis and feedback among my collaborators, and we aim to present the results from next year onwards. As individual research projects, I have analyzed several other Basque literary works, and have made some of the results public in the following conference presentations and lectures.
