The subject of this research was the writing activities of Stefan Zweig during World War I, especially in the early stages, mainly in the War Archives Division (Kriegsarchiv). Many of the texts from those years remain unpublished after WWI. So, in addition to collecting and reading previously published texts and related secondary literature, I also browsed and collected publications from the time at libraries in Germany and Austria, paying close attention to the nature of the magazines and books in general, and analysed them. This research has shown that Zweig's "conversion" from affirmation of war to absolute pacifism is not necessarily a complete change as it has been said; rather, even in the texts that preceded his "conversion" to pacifism, there are elements that are common to later pacifism. There are very few praises of the war or chauvinistic statements. On the other hand, ideas such as the emphasis on human life based on universal humanism and criticism of propaganda are similar to his later anti-war arguments. This study will continue to analyze in more detail how these motifs are used through multiple texts and ultimately lead to pacifist works. I will also look at comparisons with other writers, and the relationship with other publications from the Kriegsarchiv, and how his writing activities, which are said to be "propaganda-like", can be positioned in Zweig's development as a writer.
