ミシェル・カルージュの独身者機械神話に関する研究のうち、本資金の援助のもと、主に二つのリサーチをおこなった。

1. 江戸川乱歩と独身者機械神話。未読だった江戸川乱歩作品を読み、乱歩作品を独身者機械作品として読み解くための具体的な検証を進めた。後期の少年探偵団シリーズ以外の作品はほぼ読了し、研究ノートを作成した。乱歩はそもそも英仏の文学作品から強い影響を受け、引用やあからさまな模倣をしているが、リサーチの結果、そうした直接的な関係性以上に、乱歩作品に独身者機械テーマが強く見られることが明確になった。さらに考察を進め、成果をまとめた論考を来年度の「日吉紀要フランス語フランス文学」に発表する予定である。

2. ミシェル・カルージュのカトリックに関する著作。カルージュは第二次世界大戦後、『独身者機械』を含む一連の文学研究書を発表するが、そののちの著作のほとんどはカトリックに関連するエッセイや、聖人の伝記である。カルージュ自身が敬虔なカトリック教徒であったことと、カトリック思想についての彼の考えは、独身者機械というテーマとどのような関連を持つのか。それを明らかにするため、3月に渡仏し、フランス国立図書館で資料の収集、閲覧をおこなった。今回、主にリサーチしたのは、カトリック聖人に関するミシェル・カルージュの著作である。特にシャルル・ド・フーコーと、ジャック・ド・ジェズュ神父の伝記については、その取材方法に違いがあることが判明した。なお滞仏中には、独身者機械についての知見を持つボルドー大学教授のオリヴィエ・ベッサール＝バンキ氏と面会し、意見交換をおこなった。本研究課題についてはさらにリサーチを続け、論考を本年度の「日吉紀要フランス語フランス文学」に発表したのち、ミシェル・カルージュについて刊行予定の単著に組みこむ予定である。
Of the research concerned with Michel Carrouges’ myth of the bachelor machine , two key studies were conducted with the support of this fund.

1. Ranpo Edogawa and the myth of the bachelor machine
The author read previously unread works by Ranpo Edogawa and proceeded to specifically analyze Ranpo’s works to interpret them as products of a “bachelor machine .” The author finished reading most of Ranpo’s works, aside from his later Shōnen tantei dan (“Boy Detectives Club”) series, and prepared study notes. Ranpo was actually heavily influenced by Anglo and French literature, and his works contain borrowings and obvious imitation, but the results of this study clarified that, in addition to such direct relationships, Ranpo’s works also show strong “bachelor machine” themes. The author intends to continue investigations and to publish an academic paper summarizing the outcomes in next academic year ’s Revue de Hiyoshi. Langue et littérature françaises.

2. Michel Carrouges’ writings regarding Catholicism
After World War II, Carrouges published a series of literature research papers, including Les Machines célibataires (trans. “The Bachelor Machines ”), but most of his subsequent work comprises essays on Catholicism, and hagiographies. Carrouges was himself a devout Catholic, but what relationship is there between his thoughts on Catholic ideology and the theme of bachelor machines? In order to clarify this, the author traveled to France in March to collect and peruse material at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. On this occasion, the author mainly studied Michel Carrouges’ writings about Catholic saints. In particular, the author ascertained that there were differences in the methods used by Carrouges to gather information for his biographies of Charles de Foucauld and Catholic priest Jacques de Jésus. During his stay in France, the author met and exchanged opinions with Prof. Olivier Bessard-Banquy of Université Bordeaux-Montaigne, who is knowledgeable on the subject of bachelor machines. The author intends to continue studying this research topic and will publish an academic paper in this year’s Revue de Hiyoshi. Langue et littérature françaises that he plans to include in his book on Michel Carrouges, currently scheduled for publication.
