アメリカの研究者が提唱したマネジメント・コントロールを企業の中のシステムとして構築実行に責任を持つのが「コントローラー」とされている。しかし日本企業におけるコントローラーは役割として誰が行っているのか。日本企業でのマネジメント・コントロールの担い手とされる経営企画部門はなぜ日本だけに存在するのかを考察した。
研究はまず近年の先行研究から経営企画について並びにコントローラーについての理論的な考え方について理解し，過去のデータを分析することでその特徴ならびに経営企画部門の特徴と効果との関係についての分析結果を学会にて報告を行った。特徴については英文でも記述した。
これを踏まえ，実際に経営企画部門の役割や他部門との連携の実態などについて，事例並びにインタビュー調査により把握し，論文としてもまとめた。
日本企業におけるコントローラーとしての組織が一つの部門でまとまっているわけではないことと，日本企業のマネジメント・コントロールの特徴との関連性についてさらに検討を行うことが今後の課題である。

However, who is the controller in Japanese companies? We examined why the corporate planning department, which is considered to be in charge of management control in Japanese companies, exists only in Japan.
First, we gained an understanding of the theoretical concepts of management planning and controllers from recent previous studies. Next,we analyzed data set which corrected past time. We reported the results of our analysis of the relationship between the characteristics and effectiveness of management planning departments at a conference. The characteristics were also translated in English.
Based on these results, we conducted case studies and interview surveys to understand the actual roles of the corporate planning department and the actual state of cooperation with other departments. We wrote a paper on the analytical results.
Further study of the relationship between the fact that the organization as a controller in Japanese firms is not organized in a single department and the characteristics of management control in Japanese firms is an issue for the future.
