① メトレ農業感化院に収容された経験をもつ作家ジャン・ジュネ Jean Genet が、そのメトレの100年の歴史に取材して執筆し、しかし撮影にはいたらなかった、映画シナリオ『壁の言葉 Le Langage de la muraille』について、以下の成果を得た。
 a) シナリオの分析を進めた。とりわけ、メトレの創設者フレデリック=オーギュスト・ドゥメス Frédéric-AugusteDemetz を、ジュネが、悪の権化であると同時に悲壮な英雄でもある怪物的な人物に造形していることが浮き彫りになった。
 b) その分析の成果を、2023年5月28日に開催された日本フランス語フランス文学会春季大会ワークショップ「散乱するジュネ——詩人・聖者・歴史家」において、報告した。
 c) 『壁の言葉』に登場し、やはりジュネによって興味深い人物に仕立てられている、細菌学者ルイ・パストゥールについて、研究費によって関連書籍を購入し、分析に着手した。
② 研究費のほとんどを充てて、フランスへの研究旅行を実施した。2023年11月17日から25日までのパリ滞在によって、以下の成果を得た。
 a) フランス国立図書館において、メトレ農業感化院に関する文献調査を実施した。とくに、その創設に貢献したオーギュスト・アンブロワーズ・ジロー Auguste Ambroise Giraud とアベル・ ブルエ Abel Bouet について、さまざまな発見があった。ジローが、軍人の経験を生かして施設内の規律を定めるとともに、安定した経理の確立にも努めたことが明らかになった。一方、建築家ブルエが独自の刑罰理論に基づいて設計した宿舎や教会などの建物こそ、メトレの特殊性のひとつだということが再確認された。
 b) アラブ世界研究所を訪れて、ジュネについての展覧会「ジャン・ジュネのスーツケース」を見た。晩年に書かれて、スーツケースのなかにしまい込まれたままになっていた未発表の資料に接する、貴重な機会となった。
 c) 展覧会「ジャン・ジュネのスーツケース」で公開された資料について、紹介と考察を兼ねた文章「所有と携行——ジュネのスーツケース」をまとめ、雑誌に発表した。
① Jean Genet, writer and former “colon” of the Mettray Agricultural Penal Colony, left a screenplay entitled “The Language of the Wall”, which he had written based on 100 years of the Mettray's history, but which he had never managed to film.
 a) We proceeded to analyze the scenario, learning how Genet had transformed the Mettray’s founder Frédéric-Auguste Demetz into an impressive figure who represents both an incarnation of evil and a tragic hero.
 b) This analysis was reported on May 28, 2023, during the Conference of the Japanese Society of French Language and Literature, as part of the workshop “Genet in fragments : poet, saint, historian”.
 c) We have begun our analysis of Louis Pasteur, who also appears in “The Language of the Wall” in such an interesting way. Using research funds, we purchased a book on the bacteriologist.
② Most of the funds were allocated for a research trip to France. We stayed in Paris from November 17 to 25, 2023.
 a) The document research at the National Library of France was rich. We had various discoveries, notably on Auguste Ambroise Giraud and Abel Brouet, who contributed to the founding of the Mettray Agricultural Penal Colony. Giraud, a former soldier, he established discipline within the Colony and worked to stabilize its accounting. And it was the architect Brouet who, following his own penitentiary theory, designed the buildings such as houses and chapel which constituted one of the particularities of the Colony.
 b) We visited the Arab World Institute to see the exhibition “The Suitcases of Jean Genet”. It was a valuable opportunity to have access to the unpublished documents written by the writer in his last years and kept in his suitcases.
 c) We published a paper entitled “Property and Portable——Genet’s suitcases”. This is a critical presentation of the texts exposed in “The Suitcases of Jean Genet”.
