The subject of this study focused on e-sports competitors and was experimentally examined from the perspective of domain generality and domain specificity with respect to perceptual-cognitive and non-cognitive skills using various subjective and objective evaluation methods. Specifically, the study consisted of the following two tasks.
Task 1: Validation of non-cognitive skills using subjective evaluation methods
Task 2: Verification of perceptual-cognitive skills by using objective evaluation methods.
This year, the most important of the two tasks was the selection of high school and university students in the beginner to intermediate level, who are in the growth phase of their e-sports, as research subjects, and the construction of an environment for conducting a longitudinal, continuous survey. In particular, we strongly collaborated with high schools in order to mainly target students who belong to the e-sports education course at Shinagawa Gakugei High School, a newly established high school in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo. Specifically, 1) as a special lecture in "Introduction to e-Sports," we discussed the significance of this study, including previous research on the perceptual-cognitive and non-cognitive skills of e-sports competitors (June 19, 2023). In addition, in order to hold an e-sports experience event at the "Oi Dontaku Summer Festival" as a place to interact with local residents for the purpose of improving various skills and education, various workshops (July 5 and July 12, 2023), advance preparations (August 12 and August 18, 2023), and the actual event day (August 19 and August 20, 2023) were held. The high school students and university students discussed the issue. In addition, a workshop was held (March 4, 2024) to discuss game titles, implementation methods, and verification methods in relation to various skills in preparation for a multi-generational exchange event for the elderly in 2024.
Some of the results were presented at the symposium "Tokyo eSports Festa 2024" hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
