2022年9月20日から23日まで、2023年1月31日から2月3日まで、3月5日から7日までの計3回、興譲館高等学校に出張し、蔵書のうち明治20年代までの刊本・写本を書庫から選び出し、81点の詳細な書誌データを記録した。これにより、これまで調査した点数は約700点となった。また、1960年代までの刊行図書と混在している調査対象を書架から全て抜き出して別置した。その結果、未調査図書は約100点であることが判明した。
この調査によって、興譲館の蔵書は、館の蔵書として購入されたもの以外に、初代館長阪谷朗廬の旧蔵書、第二代館長坂田警軒の旧蔵書、地元有力者で興譲館の支援者たちの結社一新社の旧蔵書、また卒業生や関係者がそのつど寄贈した著書や蔵書など、多様な由来を持つものによって複合的に形成されてきたことがわかった。朗廬の知人であった渋沢栄一や、朗廬の子である阪谷芳郎も、1930年代に至るまで、自ら出版した書物や入手した書物を寄贈していることもわかった。
また、調査の過程で、これまで興譲館関係者にも知られていなかった、坂田警軒の自筆詩集を発見した。この詩集には、警軒の没後に編集された詩文集『警軒文鈔』にも収められていない作品があり、今後詳しい研究を行うことによって、警軒および興譲館について新たな知見が得られることと予想される。
もう一箇所の調査対象であった宇部市立図書館新井文庫（新井無二郎旧蔵書）については、管理者である宇部市教育委員会から、現在保管場所を変更するため、蔵書はすべて箱詰めになっている状態で、調査は出来ないとの連絡があり、今年度は調査を断念した。
その旅費を含め、残りの資金は、研究テーマに関連する図書等の購入に充てた。漢学者である朗廬・警軒について詳しく知るため、日本漢学の研究書や、近世近代の漢学者・漢詩人の著作や自筆詩文稿本、関連分野である美術・書道の研究書、書誌調査や筆跡調査に関する参考書などである。
From September 20th to 23rd, 2022, from January 31st to February 3rd, 2023, and from March 5th to 7th, 2023, we visited Kojokan High School three times in total. We selected books and manuscripts made up to the 20s of Meiji era from the library and recorded detailed bibliographic data on 81 items. As a result, the number of points surveyed so far is about 700. In addition, all the research subjects, which were mixed with books published until the 1960s, were extracted from the bookshelves and placed separately. As a result, it turned out that there are about 100 uninvestigated books.
As a result of this research, we found that the Kojokan's collection of books, in addition to those purchased for the library, was formerly owned by the first director, Roro Sakatani, and by the second director, Sakata Keiken, or the old collection of Isshinsha, a group of supporters, and collections donated by alumni and related people on a case-by-case basis.
In the course of the investigation, we also discovered a handwritten collection of poems by Sakata Keiken, which had not been known even to those involved with Kojokan. This collection of poems includes works that were not included in the collection of poems "Keiken Bunsho," which was compiled after Keiken's death.It is expected that new knowledge about Keiken and Kojokan will be obtained through detailed research in the future.
The Ube City Board of Education, the administrator of the Ube City Library's Arai Bunko collection (former collection of books by Mujiro Arai), which was also the subject of the survey, has now changed its storage location, so all the books in the collection have been boxed up. We were informed by the staff that we could not conduct an investigation, so we gave up on the investigation this year.
The rest of the funds, including the travel expenses for Ube, were used to purchase books and other items related to my research theme. In order to learn more about the Chinese scholars Roro and Keiken, research books on Japanese Chinese studies, works and handwritten poetry manuscripts of early modern Japanese scholars and poets, research books on art and calligraphy in related fields, bibliographic research and reference books on handwriting research.
