The applicants call robots that can actively connect with other robots, machines, and information services, and that can effectively coexist and collaborate with people through the cognitive and communicative behaviors of intention, social robots. The robots we aim to realize are equipped with interactive capabilities equivalent to those of humans, and current communication robots are critically inferior in terms of their inability to understand people's sensitivities. In this project, we will discuss methods to realize social robots from the two viewpoints of "adaptive interpersonal interaction strategy based on shared sensitivity" and "long-term co-development mechanism of sensitivity," propose appropriate implementation models for each, and verify the validity and basic performance of the proposed methods through a variety of prototype implementations. In 2022, from the perspective of adaptive interpersonal interaction strategies based on shared sensitivity, we focused on "analyzing the influence of emotional nonverbal behavior and social interaction behavior on consensus building" and conducted parallel discussions on a variety of issues.
For robots and virtual agents to interact naturally with humans, it is essential to construct shareable concepts with users. Few previous studies have investigated the ongoing process of concept sharing in human dialogue, and most of them are based on text chat. Therefore, in this research project, we focused on the modality of dialogue and the social relationships among speakers, and investigated the effects of these factors on the process of constructing shared concepts. Specifically, we collected and analyzed dialogues in which shared concepts were constructed between speakers under the conditions that the modality of the dialogues was audio or video and the social relationship was first meeting or acquaintance. The results suggest that more diverse modalities and deeper social relationships accelerate the sharing of concepts. Furthermore, the results of the analysis of factors contributing to the progression of concept sharing, focusing on the latency of alternation, which showed significant differences in the comparison between conditions, suggested that the amount of speech containing specific information about the collaboration was an important factor. The corpus collected in this research project and the results of the analysis will be useful for research and development of robots.
