The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the impact of educational and learning activities in Japan directed toward parents, especially mothers, on popularizing and promoting an understanding of "Democracy" in the post World War Ⅱ period, from the mid-1940s to the 1960s. Analysis will look at the Educational activities of primary school teachers, parent-teacher association activities, and magazines for parents on "New Education" and "Home Education".
This year, the process and policy of the publication of "Mothers and Children" were analyzed, demonstrating the following three points: First, "Mothers and Children" acquired various readers across different classes and geographies; second, the magazine took on a role as a "Textbook of New Education" for parents; third, "Mothers and Children" had a strong orientation for mothers' own learning activities.
In the process of carrying out the above research, the following two points were revealed. 1. Many magazine for parents on the prevailing new education were published and some had links to pre-war publications; 2. There was some movement toward the acceleration of mothers' learning activities. Future research should investigate the continuity and discontinuity of parents' magazines from the pre-war periods and seek to understand mothers' learning activities, which are not always included in the home education directed at children.
