３年計画の２年目に当たる2020年度は、３施設のPICUにおいて、医療者が両親に状態の悪い子どもに関する情報を提供する場面とケア場面の観察、ならびに観察データを基にした両親と医療者へのインタビューを行う予定だった。しかし、新型コロナウィルス感染症の影響により、データ収集が制限されてしまった。まず、協力施設のうち1施設は関西にあるため、東京から出向くこと自体が困難で、データ収集を行うことができなかった。次に、今年からデータ収集を開始する予定だった１施設は、研究開始の機会を逸した形となってしまった。残る首都圏の１施設も、外部者の立ち入りが禁止されていたが、施設の協力者と打ち合わせを重ねながら、病棟内には入らない形でのデータ収集を試みることができた。入院患者の数自体が制限されていることにくわえて、家族の面会が大きく制限されており、研究協力依頼が難しい状況ではあったが、なんとか、対面で１事例、web経由で２事例のデータは収集することができた。
しかし、その後、再び新型コロナウィルス感染が拡大し、データ収集が困難な状況となってしまった。施設の協力者と定期的に連絡をとり、データ収集の再開に向けた調整を行ってきたが、研究者が施設内に入ることが必要となる観察は不可能であった。そこで、web経由のインタビューと並行して、医療者からの情報提供の状況とそれに対する両親の評価に関する質問紙調査を行うことにした。226名の両親に質問紙を配付し、現在回収中である。
最終年となる次年度は、web経由のインタビュー、質問紙調査の結果の分析と並行して、観察とインタビューによるデータ収集を再開したいと考えており、施設の協力者との調整を続けている。
2020 was the second year of my three-year investigation of PICUs in three facilities. I planned to observe the care given to children in poor condition and the information provided to parents, and also conduct interviews with the parents and medical staff. However, due to the spread of Covid 19, my ability to collect data has been restricted. Since one of the cooperating facilities is located in the Kansai, it was difficult to go out from Tokyo and it was not possible to collect data there. I was also unable to begin the process at one facility where I scheduled to start collecting data this year. As for the remaining facility in the Tokyo metropolitan area, outsiders were also prohibited from entering, so I met with the collaborators (medical staff) to find ways to collect data without entering the facility. The number of inpatients had become more limited and family visits became severely restricted, which increased the difficulty in finding subjects to cooperate with the research. However, I was finally able to collect data on one case via a face-to-face interview and on two cases via the web.
After that, the number of Covid 19 infections surged again, making it more difficult to collect data. I had regular contact with my collaborators in the three facilities and made adjustments to resume data collection, but it was not possible to make observations that required my researchers to enter the facility. Therefore, in parallel with the interview data collected via the web, I decided to conduct a questionnaire survey about how information is provided by medical professionals, as well as the parents' evaluation of this process. Questionnaires were distributed to 226 parents and are currently being collected.
Next year, which is the final year, I would like to resume data collection through observations and interviews in parallel with the compilation of the results of the questionnaire survey, as I continue to coordinate with my collaborators in the facilities.
