Abstract
Two fact-finding tours were conducted for the students and faculty members of Keio to see the aftermath and reconstruction of the Great East Japan Earthquake and to interact directly with the on-site victims.
The first visit site were Ishinomaki city and Onagawa town in Miyagi Prefecture on August 6, 7, 8th in 2018 with thirteen students (eight of Faculty of Letters, two Economics, two graduate students and one of the Girls Sinior High School) and three faculty members. In this visit a fisherman who has been keeping a long friendship with our faculty introduced the change of on-site situations and talked his recent private experience. We observed his remaining house destroyed by tsumani, the ruins of Ookawa Elementary School, and the local hospital of Onagawa. We also participated in a workshop of the Reconstruction and Volunteer Study in Ishinomaki Senshu University.
The second visit sites were Naraha town and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) in Fukushima prefecture on 6th and 7th of February in 2019 with nine students (seven Faculty of Letters, one Econimics and one Shonan Fujisawa Campus)and three faculty members. We visited Naraha Kita Elementary School and communicated with its pupils and teachers. We also visited FDNPS and its related facilies accompanied with staffs of Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc (TEPCO) as well as its neighborhood Ookuma town where no residents can return yet.
Those two visiting tours were conducted by bus chartered from Mita campus. The participants stayed in a local inn run by a fisherman's family and in a hotel where workers for reconstruction stayed to have opportunities to see the local situation directly.
Because Ishinomaki fisherman's house would be demolished by the end of February in 2019, we asked a video recording of its process to Kenji Yamada, a visual artist of the Tokyo Geidai, who stayed with us in the middle of February. A student, Mayu Nagai who draw a calligraphy for a fisherman, also visited ishinomaki and presented her work to the fisherman.
This years activities was a good kick-off preparation for the related educational course set in Faculty of Letters next year.
