本研究の第１の目的は，現在の日本企業における管理会計実態の把握であった。今日では多くの管理会計手法が大企業を中心に利用されてきているが，その利用実態について十分には分かっていない部分も多い。第２の目的は，理論・実務ギャップの把握，解明である。管理会計の教科書で一般的に説明されるコンベンショナル・ウイズダムについて，実証的裏づけのない情報は意外と多く，実態データによる検証が必要である。第３の目的は，日本的管理会計の原理解明である。日本企業に特徴的な管理会計実践について，理論やフィールド調査に基づくいくつもの仮説が提示されたままであり，実証的研究が必要である。
以上の問題意識・研究目的のもと，2009年と2014年に東証一部上場企業を対象とした郵送質問票調査を実施し，データ分析による実証研究ならびにフォローアップのための企業訪問調査を実施し，それらの研究成果を総合し，研究書（2冊）として出版してきた。
今年度に実施してきた本研究は，20年間におよぶこの一連の研究における第3回郵送質問票調査研究を担っている。第2回調査から5年が経過する2019年1月に上場企業全社3,700社余りを対象に実施した。質問票の回収は3月上旬にまでおよんでおり、現在、報告書を作成中である。
この郵送質問票調査に先立ち、近年10年ほどの企業の管理会計を取り巻く環境変化や管理会計技法・手法の利用実態に関する調査・研究を対象とした文献調査を実施し論文として発表した。
The first purpose of this research was to grasp the current state of management accounting in Japanese companies. Today, many management accounting methods are used mainly in large companies, but there are many parts that are not sufficiently understood about their actual usage. The second purpose was to grasp the theory and practical gap and to clarify it.
The third purpose was to clarify the principle of Japanese management accounting. A number of hypotheses based on theory and field survey have been presented on management accounting practices characteristic of Japanese companies and empirical research is necessary.
For the aforementioned research purpose, we implemented mailing questionnaire surveys for companies listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2009 and 2014.
This research that we conducted this fiscal year is responsible for the third mailing questionnaire survey research in this series of research over 20 years.
Prior to this survey, we have already published the literature review article targeting surveys and researches on environmental changes surrounding management accounting of companies in the past ten years and the actual situation of utilization of management accounting techniques/ methods.
