認知能力とともに非認知能力を育む必要性が述べられている。認知能力とは, IQなどの能力である。一方非認知能力とは, 自己制御, 自尊心といった社会情動スキルのことを言う。この非認知能力が大人になってからの生活に差を生じさせると言う研究成果があり, その重要性の認識が高まっている。しかし, 非認知能力は測定することが困難であるため, 非認知能力の重要性に関するエビデンスが少ない。そのため, 非認知能力を測定することが出来る尺度の開発が必要である。さらに, 多くの質問紙調査では, 質問の内容が否定的であるために, 質問紙に答えることにより自己効力感をさげてしまう可能性が考えられた。そのため, 子どものポジティブな側面をとらえることが重要であると考え, ポジティブな側面をとらえた子どもの非認知能力を測定するための尺度を開発し, その信頼性と妥当性を明らかにすることを目的とした。
乳幼児期の非認知能力について, 「well-being」「QOL」「resilience」「happiness」「empowerment」「competence」「EQ」に焦点をあて, 国内外の先行研究に関するレビューを行った。レビューに基づき「肯定的受容」「レジリエンス」「共感性」「夢」の4つの大きな枠組みからなると考えられた。これらの4つの枠組みより, ポジティブな側面をとらえている内容である76項目を抽出し, 項目案を作成した。さらに, 発達看護学, 保育学分野の研究職および専門職による内容的妥当性の検証を行い, 子どものポジティブな側面をとらえた非認知能力の尺度を作成した。専門家からの意見より最終的に28項目選定した。選定した28項目と家庭環境, 社会サポート状況, 健康状態, 社会適応, 家族と子どもの属性などとともに, 内的一貫性, 基準関連妥当性検証のために, SDQや社会関連性の尺度などと組み合わせたアンケートを作成し郵送調査を行った。現在, アンケート調査の結果の分析し, 今後, 論文投稿をする予定である。
OECD Skills Studies say, "Children need a balanced set of cognitive, social and emotional skills -also known as non-cognitive skills- for achieving positive life outcomes". Furthermore, many dimensions of social performance cognitive and non-cognitive skills are equally important. It predicts good schooling attainments and wages, and also predicts a range of social behaviors. There are many reports on cognitive skills but unfortunately, there are not many in non-cognitive skills due to lack of scales to assess non-cognitive skills. The purpose of this study is to develop a scale for assessing the non-cognitive skills for children that can be measured quantitatively.
In developing a scale for assessing the non-cognitive skills for children, it is necessary to have a reliable reference construct to ensure that the scale is suitably valid ; thus, we searched in the concept of "well-being", "QOL", "resilience", "happiness", "empowerment", "competence", and "EQ". We defined non-cognitive skills as "sustained positive emotion", "resilience", "empathy", and "hope in future". Therefore, we considered that above mentioned four categories appropriately would reflect non-cognitive skills for children. Seventy-six items were categorised. Childcare professionals, researchers along with developmental psychologists and professionals in maternal and child health conducted an item analyses in the methods of focus group interviews. They closely examined the content of each item to ensure that there was no overlapping of the meaning and that the wording was at the children's level. Furthermore, they examined carefully so that the questions are positive and the children don't feel bad when they answer the questions. The item analyses resulted in a total of 28 items. The questionnaire consisted of questions on demographic information, the non-cognitive skill items and two additional scales to confirm the criterion and validity of construct of non-cognitive skill scale : SDQ and social interaction. We are going to analyse these subjects and submit a paper.
