本研究課題は, 社会心理学の先行研究の追試を行い, その再現性を検討することを目的としている。2017年度は, 前年度までに取得済みの異性の性的意図の読み取りにおける性差を扱ったHaselton & Buss (2000), 祖父母から孫への愛情への偏りを扱ったLaham et al (2005), 出生順による家族への愛着の差を扱ったSalmon & Daly (1998)の追試結果について, 日本社会心理学会および犬山認知行動研究会において報告を行った。これらをまとめた投稿論文を執筆中である。Laham et al (2005)については, 先行研究の結果は再現されたものの, 核家族化などの影響が考えられたため, 高齢者を対象としたデータ取得を行った(データ未分析)。これらの研究は全てOpen Science Framework上で事前登録を行った上で実施した。
また2017年度には新たに2つの研究の追試を開始した。一つはMilgram (1977)以来, 諸外国で実施されてきたフィールド実験手法であるLost Letter法による研究である。Lost Letter法は2010年台に入ってからその価値が再発見されつつある。今回は特にロンドン市における地域差を扱ったHolland et al. (2012)の追試を東京において行うことを目指した。フィールド実験という特殊な手法であるため, 事前登録にむけた予備実験として実施した。先行研究とは異なった傾向の結果が得られたが, 技術的な問題点もあるため, それらを検討して2018年度に本実験を実施したい。出生順によるパーソナリティの違いを扱ったHealey & Ellis (2007)については, 予備実験, 本実験ともに先行研究を再現する結果が得られた。近年, パーソナリティへの出生順の影響には懐疑的な方向が多い中, 注目すべき結果と考えており, 2018年度前半には投稿論文としてまとめたいと考えている。
これらに加えて, 心理学における追試研究の重要性についての啓発活動として, 「基礎心理学研究」に論文を執筆した。
This project aims to conduct replications of preceding social psychological studies. In 2017, we analyzed data from three replication studies conducted in 2016 and presented the results at the 58th conference of Japanese Society for Social Psychology. The replication targets were, Haselton and Buss (2000) that examined men's overperception of women's sexual intent, Laham et al. 2005) that examined biased grandparenting, and Salmon & Daly (1998) that examined middle-born's familial sentiments. We are currently collecting further data to see the reasons behind the success/failure of the replications. Part of the attempt has been presented at the Inuyama cognitive and behavioral science meeting.
We also conducted two new replication studies. One is Holland et al (2012) that examined the regional differences within a city (London) using a famous field experiment paradigm : Lost-letter method (Milgram, 1977). The other is Healey and Ellis (2007) that examined birth-order effects on personality using the within-family comparison method. Both of the replications turns out to be positive.
In addition, we worked to enhance the awareness among psychologists on the importance of replication studies.
